You people far too concerned with being politically correct to actually understand how we were honoring the sioux through our use of the name and logo, and too blind to see problems with the use of the fighting irish, cowboys, trojans, spartans, seminoles, vikings, etc, have managed to beat us in a fight. Congratulations.

You through down the gloves with us, even though you were twice our size, because you didn’t like that we took the puck from you and scored a goal.

We were managing just fine until you brought your even bigger buddy, the NCAA, into the picture. Even then, we defended ourselves nobly.

Congratulations, the two of you managed to take down the one of us. You should feel really important.

Even though you won the fight, we really won in the end. As we serve our fighting majors, sure, there won’t be any fighting sioux out on the ice. But, we have inspired our team with our brave actions and in doing so, our team will build the momentum needed to win the game.

You, on the other hand, have done nothing for your team except put two decent players in the penalty box.

So in the meantime, we will skate as the University of North Dakota, and we will be damn proud of it. But we will always be the fighting sioux, even if the referees keep us in the box. You can try to take the fighting sioux away from the school, and even succeed, but you cannot take away the spirit of the sioux.

And we’re not done; this isn’t over.

Sure, another nickname may come to pass, or it may not. Years, decades, could pass. But we will always know ourselves as the fighting sioux. You cannot take away 80 years of history so easily.

Please, take some fucking seats and bring your racist ass friends with you to take those seats. We have been fighting for the discontinuation of racist logos and names FOR YEARS. This isn’t some brand new fight we’re having.

If you actually gave a shit about “honouring the sioux” (is your shift key broken? do you not know how to show respect and capitalize a peoples’ name?) you would sit down and listen to the actual Sioux people.
